About
This page / blog / site is simply a collection of mostly useless info for anyone other then me. My name is Dane DeValcourt. I reside in Lafayette, Louisiana (not of my own free will). I have spent the last 15 years of my life working as a network engineer / administrator for various companies around the US. I have lived in many places and worked in many more. One constant in my life has been what I do for a living and I am very grateful for that. It’s really nice to do what you love and love what you do and make a decent living from it.
You can email me at dane (dot) devalcourt (at/@) gmail (.) com
I have never been keen on broadcasting who I am over the internet. Not because I am special or important or have anything to hide but I know how easy it is to divulge too much personal info and how there are those out there who like to harvest that info for nefarious reasons.
As of late I don’t even share who my employer is because for one they frown on employees blogging. If people know who you work for and you blog an opinion piece well all too often people assume your opinion is some how that of the employer as well. The primary reason for me not sharing who exactly I work for is that people will assume I am biased about some things because of who my employer is.
My own personal perception of most people is that they tend to believe everything is black and white. I say this because they will often pick a side about something and they expect you to pick a side as well and if you don’t pick their side well your the evil enemy. As someone who learns something new every day and who is constantly discovering what I thought was the truth isn’t well I have a very hard time picking a side on anything. My views and thoughts which have been shaped by my life and experiences, family and friends, geography and such are constantly evolving and constantly being challenged. So much so that I really don’t know what my personal beliefs are these days. Values however don’t seem to change much.
